Getting Started in Mixed Martial Arts

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is constantly pushing the boundaries of human skill, intensity and above all heart. But here are a few tips on getting started in mixed martial arts:
  1. Search for a club - with the increasing popularity of mixed martial arts many local mixed martial arts clubs are popping up. If a specific mixed martial arts club is not available look for a specific club catering to a particular area of mixed martial arts (MMA) e.g. jujitsu, wrestling, boxing
  2. Get a gym membership - cardio is a huge aspect in mixed martial arts and if you want to be a serious competitor increase your stamina. Cycling, running and even swimming are all great ways to achieve this.
  3. Watch mixed martial arts - it is important to stay focused when training and an effective way of doing this is watching various mixed martial arts fighters in the various competitive arenas e.g. UFC, K1 Kickboxing, Pride FC, IFL etc. Keep your eye on the prize!
  4. DO BATTLE! - once your confidence is up and you feel you are becoming a competent fighter consult your trainer to set up a local fight. Your trainer knows what you are capable of and will have a better idea of competitive events and prospective opponents
